In 2009, in a bid to study the fat burning effect of apple cider vinegar in humans, Japanese researchers did  double blind study on obese adults with similar body weight and waist measurements.

They split the participants into three groups.

Every day for 12 weeks, the first group drank a beverage containing half an ounce of apple cider vinegar.

The second group had a drink containing one ounce of apple cider vinegar. And the last group had a drink containing no apple cider vinegar at all.

At the end of the study, the two groups that had drinks that contained apple cider vinegar had less belly fat, lower triglycerides, lower waist measurements, thinner waists, lower body weights and BMIs, compared to the group that drank no vinegar.

That’s in addition to studies carried out in mice ( that happen to share very similar physiological characteristics to humans), that  showed that mice fed with a high fat diet and the active ingredient of Apple Cider Vinegar-acetic acid formed up to 10% less body fat than mice that was not fed acetic acid.

Leading the researchers to conclude that this finding supports the notion that acetic acid turns on genes that activate enzymes that break down fat and prevent weight gain.

But that’s not all, apple cider vinegar helps you lose weight by making you eat less too.  It does this by making you feel fuller sooner and for longer.

A study that proved this was a study published in the European journal of clinical nutrition where it was found that participants who ate bread with vinegar felt significantly fuller than their counterparts who ate only bread. The more acetic acid (the key component of vinegar) that the subjects ate the fuller they felt.

Apple Cider Vinegar also supresses appetite because it contains the fiber pectin that is an effective appetite suppressant.
